There are no shortage of VRBO and other rental properties in Sunriver, Oregon – apparently the ideal spot for many families to own a “second home”. Sunriver is a small town that has a flavor all to its own, with a very consistent design throughout it and a particular aesthetic that sets it apart. (Truthfully, we don’t find the landscapes of Sunriver itself especially attractive, but its location makes it the perfect home base for exploring everything Central Oregon has to offer!)

On a recent trip over a 3-day weekend, we found this rental house, “9 Cottonwood” to serve our family.

Two factors really set it apart from all the other properties available:

  1. Very reasonable pricing — not more than I would expect to pay for a decent hotel suite in the area. As a family of 6 making impromptu vacation plans, that’s important!
  2. This awesome hot tub (picture courtesy of Vacasa):

Sunriver boasts a huge outdoor water park, but we tend to prefer something on a smaller scale — with a little less chaos and a little more privacy. This fit the bill perfectly! With a temperature control on the hot tub as well so we could keep it comfortable for our kids, this made for lots of fun.

The interior was spacious and gave us plenty of room for food, games, and relaxing. (The large sofa is a sleeper that unfolds into a mattress, something that the listing doesn’t mention and that we were pleasantly surprised to discover.)

The only snafu that we encountered in our 3-day stay was that the clothes washer broke halfway through a cycle, leaving clothes in a pool of water. Vacasa, the property management company handling the unit (we have stayed in a few of their other properties) was responsive, and I expect it was promptly fixed or replaced as soon as we headed out. (We opted not to have a repairman intrude on our vacation, and just held our laundry to take care of later at home.)

The accommodations at 9 Cottonwood were spacious, with two queen-sized bedrooms and one with bunkbeds for the kids. Tucked away on a cul-de-sac, we also enjoyed their stock of bicycles in the garage and did some riding around. All in all, it was a great location for us, and we came away with no regrets.
